Meditation 17: John Donne

11 04 2008

1. Are there any ideas in Donne’s meditation that you find puzzling or hard to accept or understand? Why? It is hard to be able to see death like a exchange or translation, but every point of view sees it differently

2. Several of Donnes metaphors suggest something aboout the relationship of people to one another. Look at those methaphors -what do they imply about society? All people are related to each other, and not everyone is different totally

3. Why does the speaker feel that affliction is a treasure? In what ways is the tribulation like money? It helps people grow up, also that tributation is  treasre that’s why it is realted completely to money

4. How would you explain what Donne means by saying “the bell…tolls for thee”? his iseas are death, we all have to die at some point

5. What do you think Donne’s main ideas are in this meditation? Do you agree with them all? “ its out time to die” symbolizes end

6. How would you describe the speakers tone: depressed, angry, resigned, or something else? What beliefs and values do you think account for the tone? Its told ina  depress tone, and it knows there is a God

Death be not Proud

  1. many of the ideas are related to death
  2. death is not something to be proud because it is making people sad.
  3. resting you are in a down and calm stage of mind, and when you sleep you are also calm and not aware of what its going on around you
  4. it is really strong and contradictory and sometimes hard to understand
  5. death is normal and relaxed from thinking he accepts it
  6. every one has a point of view and a own way of thinking
